The artwork Kontrollverlustgewinn (loss of control gain of pleasure) is part of the exhibition “Turbulenzen (turbulenes)” hosted by the Verband Bildender Künstler Thüringen e.V.
Turbulence refers to disordered flows and vortices. In a general sense, it denotes states of unrest, uncertainty, and significant change. Turbulences describe phases in life characterised by the loss of stability, routine, and security, where insecurity, chaos, and unpredictability prevail instead. Such life situations are often associated with stress, effort, and adaptability.
Ultimately, however, turbulence or crises in life also hold potential for development and growth. They can stir and awaken us while releasing something new. From this loss of control and randomness emerges a space for free decisions. The key to this in flux state is resilience and creativity to conjure up the positive.
The light installation consists of a daylight projector and a fan mechanism that swirls pieces of colourful films around, projecting them onto a wall in ever-changing colour compositions. The infinite pattern variations created by the air vortices are as uncontrolled and random as they are captivating and enchanting. The animated play of colours visualises the effects of turbulence. At the same time, the dynamic, luminous light display fascinates and conveys a positive, aesthetic expression of perpetual creativity. Through loss of control and randomness, new, beautiful patterns and color structures continuously emerge. One cannot exist without the other.
To be seen in the exhibition “Turbulenzen – Thüringer Kunst spiegelt ihre Zeit” hosted by the Verband Bildender Künstler Thüringen e.V. at KunstForum Hannah Höch Gotha
